Clinton, Mississippi
The City of Clinton, Hinds County, Mississippi
The City of Clinton might as well be called the constantly growing city. From its early beginnings in the 1823 Clinton has continuously grown to the current population of 26,258. Clinton was originally named Mount Salus, or Mountain of Health. The name was later changed to Clinton to honor Dewitt Clinton, a Governor of New York. Interestingly the Clinton currently has a larger female than male population. The male population makes up 47.2% of the population and the female population consists of 52.8% of the population. The median resident age in Clinton is 33.1 years and the median household income in 2009 was $52,369.00. Clinton is one of the early cities like Ridgeland that people started moving to in the 1980’s when there was a urge to rediscover “small town living.” Nowadays Clinton can hardly be considered “small town.” Its borders clash with those of Jackson and at times it is difficult to tell when you leave one city and enter the other. Clinton is home to Mississippi College, a prominent Christian College.
